New LJ
Nov. 20th, 2008 | 05:48 pm
I'm in the process of moving to a new LJ account. So I may be sending new friend requests to you all. It'll still be me only the new screen name is slightly altered. I hope to get this all figured out in the next week or so. Thanks guys! In the meantime I will be checking both sites. OK, I followed the instructions for making the link and it didn't work. Why am I so clueless? Anyway, the screen name is seapealsh.

What a week
Nov. 16th, 2008 | 05:15 pm
That's for sure. It was quite a week. I hit the Mervyn's sale and bought $400 worth of stuff, the big item being a whole new bed set for our bed. My daughter wanted me to replace my "mom" jeans with jeans that are a little more in style so I have 3 more pairs of jeans. Then I had to do a jury duty call in thing. I called Friday, Monday and Wednesday (twice) before I had to appear on Thursday. I never got called into a jury, which is just as well since I had to be back to work on Tuesday.
I also needed a smog check on my old Bonneville. The "check engine" problem needed to be resolved first so after $150 bucks it was off. Unfortunately my car didn't pass the smog check anyway and it had to go back into the shop for more work, to the tune of $470. Finally on Friday morning I was able to get the car passed and I'm good to go. I'm buying a new car next year I hope so this is the last smog check on this 13 year old car.
And then my computer died. Somehow a virus got into it. I noticed that my AVG was disabled for some reason (my daughter had done some program removal) so I reloaded it but it was too little too late. First the plug ins failed, then I couldn't load Microsoft Word, and finally Windows wouldn't load. So I had to get a new computer. I didn't have enough money for anything other than the CPU and data recovery. I'll wait for the sales to possibly buy a new monitor.
So this little week cost me about $2000. Geesh.

Election
Nov. 3rd, 2008 | 05:20 pm
mood: calm
Oh, I will be so glad when this election is over. I'm tired of the phone messages trying to persuade me to vote for such and such candidate or such and such proposition. And I've seen people on street corners with signs! Unbelievable. I'm actually looking forward to the returns on TV tomorrow though. It is an historic election no matter who wins. I've already voted by absentee (for the first time - hubby is in India on a business trip so he had to absentee vote - I decided to do it too so I won't have to brave the polls). And I've canceled out my husband's vote for the umpteenth time. Unfortunately for me, my son registered to vote this year and is voting the same as my hubby. I've got to work on my daughter now - see if she can come to my side - but she has no interest in politics.

Birthday
Oct. 20th, 2008 | 02:10 pm
Yep it's the big 55. Now I can play in the 55 and over soccer tournaments, where I would definitely kick butt. I'm having an enjoyable day doing nothing but reading fanfic. I wanted to watch some Heroes episodes on DVD but I have to wait for them to install - wait for it - our new 52 inch HDTV. We are finally joining the rest of the world. And I'm going to get a DVR too. This makes my children very happy. And I got an Ipod Nano from the kids as a present, so I'm joining the rest of the world in that respect too. Not to mention I just got a new camera phone; I'm only about 5 years behind everyone else on that. I have a feeling I'm just not technologically oriented.

Those bums
Oct. 7th, 2008 | 05:48 pm
My Angels lost. Why am I not surprised? Being told you are expected to win it all is a kiss of death. Now watch those Dodgers get into the series. I think I'll support Tampa Bay - gotta go with the underdog.
Hubby had a great time in Peru and loved Machu Picchu. Unfortunately, his (actually my)camera was stolen, including all his photos of the hike. Then he lost his beloved Australian outback hat that I bought him for Xmas about 18 years ago. He was so upset. He's checking on line for a possible replacement. He loved that hat.
Lo, if you're reading, I did work on a patient - a baby - whose name was Juniper. No lie. I couldn't believe it. We were ahead of our time.

Hubby's trip
Sep. 23rd, 2008 | 05:43 pm
mood: chipper
music: I'm Looking Through You - Beatles
I finally heard from my husband, who's in Peru right now getting ready to hike to Machu Pichu. No problems on the flight. He says the town of Cuzco is a lot nicer than expected. He's got a little bit of a headache, so a little altitude sickness, but he's working on that. He thinks he's in pretty good shape compared to the other hikers. So far so good. I hope to hear from him before he actually starts the hike.
My son has moved back close to campus as school will start for him next week. He's living in a house with two fraternity mates. This will be his last year - we're talking graduation in the spring! Only one more tuition payment! I can maybe buy a new car now. After the big screen TV though. Lord knows we need that because football season is upon us. Sheesh.

We won!
Sep. 9th, 2008 | 05:03 pm
Just started my women's outdoor soccer league up again last Sunday. I've been playing with my team, Avalanche, for about 3 years. When we started we were a below .500 team. Last year we came in 3rd. So we had our first game and we were playing the team that wins the league every year. That's right, we beat them. To be fair, they were missing some players and played a man down, but they usually beat us by quite a bit. We won 4-2. We've picked up some great new players so I hope it'll be a good year. And I got some compliments on my play!
I'm going to the Angels game tonight. If Texas loses and the Angels win, then the Angels will clinch at least a tie for the division title. So there's a chance I'll get to see a celebration! But it's a big if.

Whoa, apparently I've made a mistake. The photo I talked about last post was not taken by Mad Brilliant, from what I can gather. So it's apparently not me in the pic. Darn it all. Someday I may be immortalized but not this time. But I did sit next to him and I'll never forget that experience. Sorry if the confusion upset people.

Has everyone seen Mad Brilliant's (bud, teach me the link thing) photos from the con? Awesome! Did you see the one with James sitting at our table? If you look to his left you'll see some brown hair and a hand. That's me!!!!! I was sitting next to him! Go me! I managed to get a few words in when we were talking about life after age 40. He always gives you his full attention when you're talking to him. That's one of the things I like about him. Gosh, he's just so nice.
Have you all seen the supposed photos of Piccolo? Wow, if those are real he's practically unrecognizable. Nice makeup job.
My mom turns 95 on Sunday. I took her to lunch today and we had a nice time. She just moved into this senior apartment two months ago but she's getting into the bingo there so that's good. I think she's making some friends. She was pretty lonely living in her big house so I think this has been a good move for her, even if she won't admit it. It's certainly a relief for my brothers and I.

Dragon Con
Sep. 2nd, 2008 | 07:54 pm
I'm leaving to other better qualified people the reports on the con, but suffice it to say that I had a lot of quality James Marsters time and I was very happy I went. The con itself was entertaining in so many ways, what with people dressed in elaborate costumes, and the great Q and A panels. Seeing so many stars in the Walk of Fame room - wow. And Michael Rosenbaum - what a funny guy. I could listen to him all day. He has an amazingly quick wit. The panel with James and Michael - priceless. And James was in great humor and well rested. It was great seeing him looking happy. And I was truly blessed to be able to share the experience with great friends (MadBrilliant, Oanimation, GhostGirl, and Jaesha - sorry I don't know how to do the link thing), who had to look after this DragonCon newbie.

Ficlet/Drabble
Aug. 21st, 2008 | 01:44 pm
Well here it is. I am not a writer. This is the first and last fic I'll ever write but it's the first time I came up with a beginning and end to an idea. I'm an analytical brain so this is simplistic and not very descriptive. And, horror upon horror, it has a some old fashioned religion in it. Proceed at your own risk.
Usual disclaimers apply (characters belong to Joss, yada yada). Takes place in Angel Season 5, NFA, after the poetry slam.

I'll try again another time. Right now I'm so angry at the Angels that I'm going to puke.

Help
Aug. 18th, 2008 | 08:22 pm
I'm trying to figure out how to do that thing where people just type in something like "under the cut" and then link to another location on the LJ. I wrote something and I thought I'd post it on LJ but I have no clue how to do it. How do you guys do that? Is this making any sense?

No fish
Aug. 16th, 2008 | 01:00 pm
Wow, that was one sucky fishing trip. We had 25 anglers on the boat and only 10 people caught any fish - a total of twelve fish caught. Two yellowfin tuna, two bluefin tuna, 2 dorado, and 6 yellowtail.
I was one of the lucky people, though. I sorta caught a yellowtail. I say "sorta" because I hooked him and he immediately went into a kelp paddy and got stuck. I could not bring him in. They had to manuever the boat to the kelp and then gaff the fish. Still, it was the biggest yellowtail I've ever caught. My hubby and our friends were skunked. But that one fish cost us about $700. Sheesh.

Fishing of course
Aug. 9th, 2008 | 07:32 pm
Yes, it's time for our annual deep sea fishing trip out of San Diego. We go for a day and a half and fish for tuna and dorado. Last year we did well with the dorado aka mahi mahi. I even got the jackpot fish, however I didn't put any money in for the jackpot so it went to the second place guy. I'll put money in this time and that will guarantee that I won't win. Yes, it's time to step on dead anchovies, get scales on my hands, smell the sweet smell of diesel fuel, and enjoy being the only woman among 25 beer drinking anglers. And I don't even eat fish!!!!! And I have to use a scopolomine patch so I don't puke. But it's still fun.
Unfortunately I'll miss my Wednesday soccer game. This over 30 women's team is so good! It helps my game to play with such talented gals. We've only lost one game. I'll be missing the semifinal game but I'll be there the next week when hopefully we are in the finals.
Three weeks till DragonCon!

Quake
Jul. 29th, 2008 | 08:21 pm
We just had an earthquake today. It's been awhile since we've had one. It was a 5.8 and the epicenter was about 20 miles away. A little 3 inch sprinkler cover fell off of the ceiling at work and just missed me. But there was no structural damage to our hospital. Even our computer systems stayed up! At home one of my daughter's picture frames fell but that's it. It was an interesting ride.......

Back from paradise
Jul. 13th, 2008 | 08:53 pm
It's good to be back home but I will miss fishing every day. Did pretty good - caught and released about 80 trout, rainbows mostly, but a few brooks and browns. Hubby and I got a fly fishing guide one day to help us out. I learned some new techniques which worked pretty well on some of the lakes. I splurged on a couple of malts, which are so many calories that I only have them on vacation.
Now I have to catch up on all my fanfiction reading. And prepare for DragonCon next month. Wow, after reading all about everyone else's experiences at DragonCon and hearing all about these "tracks" that guests can be on, and just knowing the shear magnitude of this event, I have to admit I'm a little apprehensive. I hope I'll get to hear the Q and A's of all my favorite guests. Hope there's a "Heroes" track and "Smallville" track along with whatever tracks James will be on.

Lucky man
Jun. 14th, 2008 | 08:53 pm
Can you believe it? My hubby gets to go back to Italy on a business trip next week. I won't be able to go with him this time. He's going to get to see Milan, which we missed last time. The day after he returns we go on our two week camping trip. Since he will be jet-lagged, I get to drive the 350 miles to the campsite, in our big diesel truck. I better get beaucoup treats here.
We finally got new tenants for our rental. We were sweating that for a while. Some regular income coming in to help pay my son's college tuition.
Only two months till DragonCon!

Brrrr
May. 28th, 2008 | 05:34 pm
Well, we got back from the Sierras to some nice weather. We were snowed on every day up there. Two mornings we woke up to a blanket of 2-3 inches of snow on the ground. It was beautiful but cold! We did have appropriate gear although we weren't expecting snow. The fishing was kinda slow. But the lattes were good! Going back in 4 weeks. Yay! Should be better weather.
